"Power Economics for the Next Generation" was written in the early 90's and first published 11 years ago. Relevant sections are: Chapter 11 on "Population Growth" and the related ENERGY issues on page 111 where I talk about the issue at hand today as well as Chapter 18 on page 175 where I describe the "adversarial" process of policy debate, as Dick calls it, as a rational means of debating National Issues. In the book, in general, I talk about a lot of major issues not just energy but I also propose solutions since I believe it is not productive to just complain.
My undergrad is economics and that's my first love but I taught myself engineering and I've worked as an engineer or a technical manager all my life. My book is about an economic/political system that relates better to a technology-based society, such as we have. The traditional view of economics grounded in Smith Marks and Keynes does not support the realities of today’s world. The free market although critical to driving efficiency in production is not capable of long range planning and insuring that the path we are on is at least rational. The sections of my book that I referenced in the first paragraph here relate to my thinking on Dick’s Energy road map. That road map and his suggestions on how to implement it are exactly what we need today.
